Sticky Notes is a series of outdoor music scores where street art meets performance, designed to be played by anyone in the community. Music notation is usually read on paper in a concert hall - what if we could turn it into a transformative tool for innovative practice with cultural and social benefits? Graphic scores based on short stories from Spineless Wonders are placed on footpaths as interactive installations that encourage musical and physical exploration of space in the Inner West, Sydney, Australia. In September 2019, two contemporary chamber music ensembles premiered performances of the graphic scores at four Inner West sites as part of Ashfield Edge, playing the scores as chamber music in public. Through the public exchange and sharing of musical and artistic ideas, ‘Sticky Notes’ provided a platform for art in public spaces and promoting the arts as a resource that is accessible to all walks of life.
Sticky Notes premiered on the 13th of September 2019 as part of Ashfield Edge, supported by the Inner West Council.
Scores were based on stories from around the Inner West, from Hannah Oakshott, Margaret Barbalet, Karolina Ristevski and Jude Chapman.
